Peter Gilgan Family YMCA
Is there a senior’s discount?
The YMCA is a charitable organization, that believes in fairness and equality, so our fees are the same for all adults. We offer fee assistance for those in need or on fixed incomes, in a private and confidential process. The YMCA of Oakville offers many programs for mature adults such as: Gentle Fit, Aqua Fit, YogaFitness, and AIM (Adults in Motion).
Can you get a membership just for swimming or just the gym?
We believe that access to a variety of options can help you to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Included in your monthly fee is use of our pools, our wellness centre, our family adventure centre, our gym and all children’s and aerobics classes. Because our facility is based on an open concept, it is hard for us to monitor just a “swim” or gym” membership. Day passes are available for drop-in visits.
Can I bring a friend to the Y for free if I have a membership?
Anyone can use our facility on a drop-in basis by purchasing a Day Pass for $10 or a swim pass for $5.
Do I have to sign up for fitness classes?
Almost all of our classes and programs are drop-in, so sign up is not required. The exception to this is Cycle Fit classes which requires sign-in 30 minutes before the start of class and members will get a hand stamp at the front desk.
Why are Running and Triathlon Clinics and Kinesis an extra cost when all other programs are included?
Progressive classes like running and triathlon clinics that requires commitment from the members and the introductory class cannot be taken on a drop-in basis. The number of participants is limited to give members the required instruction and attention.
The Kinesis technology is a specialized system that requires assistance from a personal trainer, so a fee is required.
If my child is a member, do I have to join too?
Children may join on their own as members and are not required to pay the building fee. Parents do not require a membership but can participate with their children for a day pass fee. Parents can supervise or watch their children rock climb, swim or play, but if parents want to attend family swim or gym programs they must buy a Day Pass.
