Creating a place to belong
When my family moved to Canada from Moscow we had a hard time finding work and making friends until we found the Y. Here my sons were accepted; they could play sports and make friends.
In my home country, I was an early childhood teacher and when the Y offered me a job in school age child care I was overjoyed. After years of hard work and learning English – I had made it. I stopped thinking about moving back because the YMCA welcomed me and my family. Now Canada is my home.
